A Saab 900 is parked at the loading dock of the historic silos (today ‘Maakleerplek’). The iconic car has been ‘tuned’ with mirror glass and twelf horn speakers, a work by Brussels-based artist Amber Meulenijzer. From her background in both sound and visual art, she explores the cinematic interfaces between decor, installation and soundscape. As such, this Saab gets new meanings by going into a visual and acoustic dialogue with its surroundings. The sound waves reflect against the brutalist concrete of the silos and bounce across the water of the Vaartkom. Similarly the landscape is reflected in the car’s reflective windows. With her series Saab Sculptures, Meulenijzer travels through Belgium and Europe to explore the sound of landscapes and architecture. It is both a mobile sound system and a resonating means of transport.
Good to know: The Saab won’t be present on Saturday 30th of April. Amber Meulenijzer will then perform during Q‑O2’s Oscillation festival in Brussels.
