‘A dialogue in whispers’
LAAN is a temporary in-situ sculpture made of clay for the central aisle of the Botanical Garden. At this time of year, the path is surrounded by wisteria, an oriental plant of origin that symbolizes love, fertility, beauty and creativity, but also eternal wisdom, patience and integrity. Enhanced by the fragrant presence of the wisteria, the 70-meter-long line invites visitors to an introspective journey, an elongated movement of meandering associations and listening. Inevitably, the form of the sculpture will evolve with time, weather and the behaviour of visitors. When finished, Roovers will return the materials to their original location: the former Sint-Pietersziekenhuis. With LAAN, Roovers connects the past of the hospital with the current 200th anniversary of the Botanical Garden and the future dream of the new performing arts site, scheduled to open at this former hospital site in 2027.
Good to know: On Thursday 12th of May, An Roovers will give a talk about her work. Info: hearhere.be.
